Kind, thoughtful and even-mannered, Powell Carpenter’s quiet helpfulness and concern for others endears him to people. His clinical expertise and excellent communication skills provide patients with outstanding care. For relaxation and recreation he enjoys listening to jazz and blues music, swimming and eating great foods. Powell grew up in Southern Oregon.

A graduate with distinction from Pacific University College of Optometry, Daran specializes in contact lenses and management of ocular disease in addition to general practice. He enjoys time with family, exercise, and learning new technologies, and has lived in Oregon for over 25 years. Pamela deCalesta, OD

Dr. Pam deCalesta is a 1998 graduate of Pacific University College of Optometry. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Pacific Alumni Outstanding Graduate Award and the President’s Award for Leadership & Involvement in Optometry. Following optometry school, she completed a residency at the Portland Oregon VA and served as a Clinical Advisor in the Pacific University Clinics. She is a trained consultant for the Council on Optometric Education and earned her Academy of Optometry Fellowship in 1999. Dr. deCalesta has been actively involved in all levels of organized optometry, including service to the American Optometric Association Congress Continuing Education Committee, and is a Past-President of the Lane Optometric Society.

Dr. Pam is currently practicing limited part-time as an Optometric Physician at the Sheldon location and spends most of her free time at home raising her toddler twin boys. She is also teaches online courses for Linn Benton Community College in the areas of medical terminology and pharmacology. Her creative side is exercised in any spare time with sewing or organizing and scrap-booking family history. She enjoys her clinic time and looks forward to reconnecting with previous patients and meeting new patients each week.

Richard W. Ehlen, O.D. was born and raised in Minnesota. He graduated
from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1992, and he has been
practicing at Rainbow Optics in Eugene, Oregon ever since. Dr. Ehlen offers comprehensive vision examinations and pre and post-operative medical care. He is also available for consultation and evaluation of cataracts, glaucoma, dry eye, macular degeneration, diabetic retinal evaluation, and other eye health needs.

Dr. Ehlen is an adjunct assistant clinical professor at Pacific University College of Optometry where he is active in teaching optometric interns. He is past president of the Lane County Optometric Society and is an active member of the Oregon Optometric Physicians Association and the American Optometric Association. He is married and has three sons. He enjoys golf, fishing, and many other outdoor recreation activities.

Dr. Ehlen believes in putting his patients' best interests first, and he strives to provide the most comprehensive vision care through the use of the most modern diagnostic equipment and ongoing continuing education. He always believes in spending a few extra minutes to explain a patient's visual status or problem so they have a better understanding of their treatment or lens options. Richard Ehlen, OD

Norman Goo, OD

Dr. Norman Goo was raised in Honolulu and attended the University of Hawaii. He later moved to Oregon and where he received his Doctor of Optometry degree from Pacific University and completed his clinical internship at the Veteran's Hospital in Vancouver, Washington. Dr. Goo served as director of the eye clinic at the Indian Health Service hospital in North Dakota, and as clinical faculty member of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry prior to settling in the Eugene/Springfield area.

Dr. Goo is highly skilled in the examination, diagnosis, treatment and management of eye diseases, visual
system disorders, and co-managing glaucoma, diabetes and eye surgery
patients.

Eye care science demands a commitment to lifelong learning. Dr. Goo is dedicated to staying current with the latest developments by regularly attending eye care conferences, researching journals, and communicating with other health care professionals. He is an active member of the American Optometric Association, and served as president of the Lane Optometric Society.

    Paul Roline, OD

    Dr. Roline graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 1978 with an emphasis in contact lenses and joined Rainbow Optics in 1985. The decision to become an optometrist came early when he announced his career plans to his eye doctor when still in junior high. "I still remember the magic of seeing the chart for the first time without thick glasses" he recalls of his first experience with contacts. He has worn glasses, hard contact lenses, gas permeable contacts, extended wear contacts, soft contacts, disposable contacts and had LASIK surgery in 1996.

    Dr. Roline has done extensive volunteer eye care in American Samoa, St. Lucia, Ecuador and in Eugene, where he was a co-founder of the Whitebird vision clinic serving the poor of Lane County. He is also an adjunct clinical professor for Pacific University, routinely hosting student optometric interns at Rainbow.

    He and his wife, Terry, are very active parents of two teenagers, Ryan and Whitney who are themselves active in crew, soccer, track and volleyball. As a family, they enjoy biking, swimming, hiking, camping, and travel.
